Harvey Brough started his musical life as a chorister in Coventry Cathedral, and was singing Bach Cantatas and recording Benjamin Britten by the time he was 13. He had great success with his band; Harvey and the Wallbangers who toured the UK and Europe extensively in the late 80's, recording four albums plus one called Jazz on EMI with Simon Rattle. Since then he has worked in many areas in the music business : Producing film music by Jocelyn Pook - Eyes Wide Shut (for which he also co wrote the music for the orgy scene), Merchant of Venice and many others. String Arranging � over 100 arrangements including many for Soul II Soul, D Influence, Terry Hall. Brough has worked as a composer for TV, radio and stage and as an arranger and producer in the music business. His credits include CITIZENS (Radio 4), THE WORLD ABOUT US (BBC1), the Alexi Sayle series PARIS (Channel 4), WISE UP (Channel 4), THE MOST BEAUTIFUL DRESS IN THE WORLD (Bookmark BBC2), HILDEGARD (Omnibus BBC1), HENRY MOORE (Omnibus BBC1), AS YOU LIKE IT (Radio 3) starring Helena Bonham Carter and broadcast on Shakespeare�s birthday in 2000, THE BAYEUX TAPESTRY (Radio 4) and LOOSE ENDS and START THE WEEK for Radio 4. In 1999 Harvey won the first Andrew Milne prize (Arts Council UK) and wrote Requiem in Blue a piece for two choirs of all ages and his own ensemble made up of musicians he has admired and worked with extensively. Requiem in Blue has been performed some 30 times all over the UK and in Europe.
In 2004 Harvey was commissioned to write a piece for three choirs and the London Mozart Players to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Dday. Valete in Pace was performed twice, once in Normandy (France) and once in Portsmouth (UK), conducted by Andrew Parrott. In September 2006 it was workshopped for a week, then performed, as part of the Lund International Choral festival (Sweden). Around this time Harvey also wrote the music for the first staging of Watership Down, which was at the Lyric Hammersmith London as their Christmas Show after an extensive UK tour. The year 2007 was an amazing one for Harvey - his Opera with Roswitha Gerlitz - Stumbling over Infinity was developed in workshops (4 days in April and 10 days in September). It was also chosen for the Firsts Festival at the Linbury Theatre - Royal Opera House II - performed on November 23rd and 24th. A piece for 150 performers of all ages for the Henley Festival was performed on the banks of the River Thames to great acclaim. He worked as Musical Director on St Joan and Warhorse at the National Theatre and toured the world with Natacha Atlas in a new acoustic band as MD. �� In December Harvey recorded Requiem in Blue with Clare College Choir, the Hills Road 6th form College Chamber choir and his band, featuring Liane Carroll, Natacha Atlas, Clara Sanabras, Gerard Presencer amongst other stellar performers. At the end of the year and in January 2008 singer Clara Sanabras �her band with Harvey - Clara and the Real Lowdown appeared at the Roundhouse, Bush Hall and the Vortex, London, to launch their new CD which is produced and arranged by Harvey.
2008 promises to be equally busy - Harvey is recording a CD with Natacha Atlas to be released by Harmonia Mundi in May. They are touring Switzerland Germany and France in March with the Mazeeka Ensemble. He is also starting work on a commission for the town of Wantage for a 45 minute major new piece based on the Apochryphal story of Thecla and St Paul. This will be performed later this year by the choir of St Peter and St Paul�s with choirs of �local children and Harvey�s extended band and soloists. He is to run workshops for the Wigmore Hall later in the year working with schoolchildren and professional musicians to make music for silent films. As a companion piece for Requiem in Blue for the first CD release of his major compositions, he is recording Valete in Pace in March with Portsmouth Cathedral Choir, the Choir of Clare College Cambridge, Hills Road Sixth Form College Chamber Choir and the Britten Sinfonia, with tenor solo Mark Le Brocq, conducted by Andrew Parrott.
